Draft revision calls for intervention on juvenile drinking, smoking

            (Xinhua)    09:06, October 22, 2019

BEIJING, Oct. 21 -- A draft revision to China's Law on the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency has added drinking and smoking as misbehaviors that require intervention.

Internet-addiction and participation in superstitious activities were also added to the proposed new list, according to a draft revision submitted to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Monday.

Parents or guardians of minors shall promptly identify and stop such misbehavior and strengthen their discipline.

It asked schools to enhance the education and management of misbehaving youngsters without discrimination, and called on police and grassroots residential committees to support parents and guardians in performing their duty of stopping such misbehavior.

The current Law on the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency entered into force on Nov. 1, 1999.
